About Our Carbon Footprint

As part of our initiative to become a fully ethical business, we have thought carefully about how we can minimise our impact on the planet. This involves using low impact dyes and natural materials that are not intensive on resources to produce. It involves using recyclable and recycled materials for our packaging. But, as we are working with artisans globally, we recognised that our shipping would have a high carbon footprint and we wanted to do our best to not only offset that, but actually give back to the planet, in our mission to become a carbon negative business.

To work towards this goal, we use a reputable carbon offsetter that will fully take into account the footprint of our entire supply chain by looking at where everything has travelled and the processes it has taken to create every item in our business line from running our website, to producing materials or shipping over the eco-friendly stickers you might find on our packaging. And each month we offset our carbon footprint.

To take this a step further, we have also decided to give back to the planet with the following two initiatives:

ONE PERCENT OF REVENUES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Daughters of Gaea has committed to donating 1% of all sales to help the environment and save our planet.

Unfortunately, almost every business takes more from the planet than it gives back. By committing to giving back to environmental charities we want to be part of the movement towards climate-positive change.

1% for the Planet shares our values around the environmental issues that threaten our world. By joining a global collective of businesses donating a percentage of their profits to the organisation, we’re helping 1% for the Planet to safeguard communities and defend our natural resources.

Covering six core areas, the organisation directly funds solutions around climate, food, land, pollution, water and wildlife crises. For our part, we’re proud to be one of the businesses that the organisation relies on to carry out this future-changing work.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems.” — Yvon Chouinard in his book 'Let My People Go Surfing'.

In 2002, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, created 1% for the Planet and started a global movement. You can read more about it here.

A TREE PLANTED WITH EVERY ORDER

Safeguarding the planet’s future has never been more important, and we believe that the time to act is now.

For this reason and many others, we’ve decided to plant a tree for every order. Through our partnership with treesisters.org, we are helping them to champion the “new normal”. An organisation that is actively exploring what a difference women can make in environmental leadership roles, it mirrors the beliefs we hold on every level. Most importantly, TreeSisters provides a way of giving back to nature while changing the way we interact with the world’s resources.

The idea is simple. You buy something through Daughters of Gaea and with every single order we donate a tree. Essentially, that way we fund the planting of a tree with each order and TreeSisters use this contribution in their carefully vetted, diverse, long-term rainforest projects.

As well as being a positive contribution to the world’s climate and resources, this simple and powerful act helps to rebuild communities and protect ecosystems. This is the key to community-led projects that benefit local areas and the world at large.

OUR CARBON NEUTRAL CERTIFICATE

You can find our carbon neutral official cerification here that we have offset with Carbon Neutral Britain, so that you can be sure we stick to our promises with carbon. With this net zero certification and our efforts with Treesisters and 1% For The Planet, we are proud do say that Daughters of Gaea is a carbon NEGATIVE brand. Meaning we give back more to the planet than we take from. This is something we are pretty proud of!
